Platform Comparison

Ultherapy Prime vs regular Ultherapy what one generation of the same system changed

Both names describe micro-focused ultrasound with visualisation from Merz Aesthetics. Prime is the later platform, and what it upgraded is the imaging and the console, while the energy physics underneath stayed where it was. Dear Clinic runs the Prime platform, listed in 100-shot increments at ₩400,000.

Ask Whether Ultrasound Suits Your Face The Ultherapy Prime Page
The Short Answer

Ultherapy Prime and classic Ultherapy are one treatment on two generations of hardware

They are the same treatment. Micro-focused ultrasound is delivered through a transducer to a set depth so that a small volume of tissue reaches a coagulation point and the body answers with collagen remodelling. Prime is the newer platform for doing it. The upgrades are in what the operator can see and on what screen, and the difference lands in planning accuracy long before it lands anywhere on your face.

That distinction is worth holding on to while you read comparison pages. A platform upgrade changes the quality of the information a director has while working. It does not turn focused ultrasound into a different modality, and a poor candidate for the treatment stays a poor candidate on either console.

Dear Clinic treats on the Prime platform. Classic Ultherapy is the predecessor system and is not a separate item on our list, so nothing on this page is an attempt to sell you one of two options we hold. It exists because people arrive having read about both, or having been treated on the earlier system somewhere before, and they are entitled to know precisely which part of the description changed. How the treatment itself is planned and delivered here sits on the Ultherapy Prime page.

Side By Side

Two rows deserve emphasis because they are the ones marketing copy tends to blur. The treatment depths did not change: a 4.5 mm transducer on the Prime platform places energy at the same depth as a 4.5 mm transducer on the older one. And the candidate profile did not change either, which means a face the reading says should be treated with something else is still a face that should be treated with something else.

What Changed

Three upgrades on the Prime platform and what each one is actually for

All three sit on the imaging side of the machine. None of them is a change to the energy that reaches you.

UPGRADE 01

DeepSEE imaging that reaches 8 mm

The earlier platform visualised to 4.5 mm, which is the depth of the deepest transducer. Prime images to 8 mm, so the operator sees below the plane being treated as well as at it. Confirming what lies under a line before placing it is a planning advantage, and it matters most where anatomy is close underneath.

UPGRADE 02

An ultrasound field twice the size

A wider field means more of the region appears in one image instead of being assembled from several. Fewer joins between views is fewer chances to misjudge where one ended and the next began, a quiet accuracy gain across a long mapped session.

UPGRADE 03

A 35% larger screen with noise reduction

A bigger display with a cleaner image is the least glamorous item here and possibly the most useful. Tissue planes are read off that screen line by line during the session, and a legible image is what makes reading them reliable for the whole of it.

Put together, the three upgrades describe one thing: more visual certainty for whoever is holding the transducer. That is worth having, and it is worth being precise about the size of it. Visibility improves the odds that each line lands where the plan intended; it does not change what focused ultrasound can do once the line is placed.

What Stayed The Same

The part of Ultherapy that no platform upgrade touched on either generation

Focused ultrasound is delivered at 1.5, 3.0 and 4.5 mm, and which of the three a zone gets is a clinical decision rather than a hardware feature
The SMAS layer is the target for the deepest work, and the response that produces a change is the body's own remodelling over the weeks afterwards
The candidate profile is identical, so laxity that has passed what non-surgical energy can address is past it on both platforms
Results vary between individuals, and what any one face does is read against its own capture instead of against a published expectation
A plan is still built zone by zone from a diagnosis, which is the step that decides whether ultrasound belongs on your chart at all

This is the reason a clinic listing a newer console is not by itself a reason to book. What decides your outcome is whether focused ultrasound suits the problem you have, and then whether the person holding the transducer maps it well. The screen helps with the second of those. Nothing helps with the first except an honest reading.

Which Applies To You

Five situations that bring people to the Prime and classic question and what each one should do next

There is a sixth case we turn down outright. Where the reading shows descent beyond what non-surgical energy addresses, we say so at the consultation and no shot plan is written, because selling a course of ultrasound into that picture spends money on an answer the anatomy has already refused.

Listed Rate

What the Prime platform is listed at and why no classic figure appears beside it

Ultherapy Prime is published at ₩400,000 (≈ $285) per 100-shot increment, which is the unit the plan is counted in. Classic Ultherapy has no row on our list because the platform is not carried here, and quoting a figure for something we do not run would be inventing a comparison. Visitors and residents are quoted from the same list.

Ultherapy PrimeIn 100-shot increments, with the count for your plan set after the diagnosis and approved by you₩400,000 (≈ $285)
Classic UltherapyNot carried at Dear ClinicNo published rate here

Because the increment is the unit, the total follows from how large a plan your reading calls for, and that is settled in the room and put in front of you before anything begins. The full rate behaviour — partial plans, how a count is arrived at, what moves a quote — is set out on the Ultherapy Prime price page, alongside the broader ultrasound lifting rates and the complete price list.

Risks And The Days After

What a focused-ultrasound session leaves behind on either platform

The ordinary findings are redness, tenderness and a degree of swelling that settles over a few days, along with a bruise where a line ran over a vessel. Some patients describe tingling or patchy numbness across a treated zone for a period afterwards, and that is expected to resolve. Temporary weakness or asymmetry can follow energy placed near a motor nerve, and a burn or a mark on the surface is the uncommon risk that imaging exists to reduce. None of these becomes impossible because a console is newer.

Raise any implant, thread or filler you already carry, any neuromuscular condition, any bleeding tendency, and pregnancy or breastfeeding at the consultation, because each of them changes what gets planned or whether anything is planned at all. Open skin, active infection or inflammation in a treatment zone means the appointment waits. Comfort measures for the session itself are confirmed at consultation.

Afterwards, keep the area out of strong heat and hard exercise while swelling settles, hold off on aggressive actives for a few days, and use sun protection. Change from collagen remodelling arrives over weeks, so the review is booked far enough out to look at something real, and the reading is done against your own capture on the terms the results page sets: same person, same conditions.

Dear, Knowhow

How the platform question is answered inside this clinic

01 — SEVEN LIFTING PLATFORMS

Ultrasound has to win the argument here

Radiofrequency, other ultrasound classes and thread lifting all sit on the same list. A platform with nothing to compete against gets recommended by default, and that is the situation we removed on purpose.

02 — DIAGNOSIS FIRST

EVE Muse 3D + AI decides before the transducer does

Three-dimensional imaging under five light sources with AI analysis records the laxity pattern and the skin, and that reading is what says whether depth-set ultrasound is the right family at all. DeepSEE then confirms the plane during the session. The two pieces of imaging answer different questions and both of them happen before a line is placed.

03 — DIRECTOR-PERFORMED

Merz certification held by two of our directors

Dr. Jemin Kim and Dr. Seonhaeng Lee both hold Merz certification as Ultherapy providers. Your director performs the session as well as the reading that precedes it, because with focused ultrasound the placement of each individual line is what shows up in the mirror months later.

FAQ

Prime against classic Ultherapy, question by question

What is the difference between Ultherapy Prime and regular Ultherapy?
The imaging and the console. Prime visualises to 8 mm where the earlier platform visualised to 4.5 mm, its ultrasound field is twice the size, and the display is 35% larger with noise reduction applied to the image. The treatment depths, the target layer and the candidate profile are the same on both, which is why the fair summary is that Prime improves the operator's view of the field and leaves the treatment where it was.
Is Ultherapy Prime worth the extra cost over standard Ultherapy?
We cannot price that comparison, because classic Ultherapy is not carried here and has no row on our list. What we can say is what the difference buys: visual certainty while the map is being executed. Whether ultrasound belongs on your chart at all is the larger question, and it is settled by the reading and never by which generation of console sits in the room.
Does Prime treat deeper than the classic system?
No. The transducers are 1.5, 3.0 and 4.5 mm on both platforms, and a 4.5 mm line places energy at 4.5 mm on either. What reaches 8 mm on Prime is the imaging, so the operator can see below the plane being treated. Seeing deeper and treating deeper are different things, and the marketing around this point is frequently sloppy.
Which platform does Dear Clinic use?
Ultherapy Prime. It is the system in our treatment room and the one every session here is delivered on, and it is photographed on this page. Classic Ultherapy is the predecessor and we do not carry it, so there is no choice between the two to make when you book with us.
I had classic Ultherapy before. Will Prime feel or work differently for me?
The treatment being delivered is the same one, so the useful input is your own history. Tell your director which zones were treated, what you noticed afterwards and over what period, because that is the most specific information available about how your tissue answers focused ultrasound. Every individual responds differently, and your previous course is read as evidence and never as a promise that the same thing repeats.
Does the larger ultrasound field mean fewer shots are needed?
That is not a claim we make. The field size affects how much of a region the operator sees in one image; how many lines a plan calls for follows from the zones being treated and what the reading found. Your plan is counted in increments and the count is set after the diagnosis and approved by you before treatment begins.
Is it safe? What can go wrong on either platform?
Redness, tenderness, swelling and bruising are the ordinary findings, and tingling or patchy numbness across a treated zone can follow and is expected to resolve. Temporary weakness or asymmetry can occur where energy lands near a motor nerve, and a surface mark or burn is the uncommon risk that live imaging exists to reduce. A newer console does not remove any of them.
Who holds the certification for this treatment at Dear Clinic?
Dr. Jemin Kim and Dr. Seonhaeng Lee both hold Merz certification as Ultherapy providers, and the certificate is photographed on this page. Sessions are performed by your director and never delegated, because the map only becomes a result through how each line is placed.
When would you tell me not to have this treatment at all?
When the reading says the problem is not the one focused ultrasound addresses. Surface crepe over tissue that has not descended is better served by radiofrequency, and descent beyond what non-surgical energy reaches is a conversation about surgery instead. In either case we do not recommend a shot plan and we show you what the capture found.
How soon would I see anything, and how long does it hold?
Change comes from collagen remodelling and accrues over weeks, so the review is deliberately booked far enough ahead to assess something real. This clinic publishes no duration figure; how long an individual holds a change varies with skin, age and what else is happening on the plan, and your director sets the expectation and the maintenance interval from your own examination.
Can I have a session on the day I come in, and is the rate the same for visitors?
Often yes, once the reading is done, the zones agreed and the count approved by you, and Dear Clinic is open 365 days a year including Sundays and public holidays. The listed increment rate is the same figure a Korean patient is quoted from, payment is made in Korean won, and consultation is available in English every day we are open.

Scientific Evidence

Peer-reviewed sources for micro-focused ultrasound with visualisation

Five references cover the modality both platforms deliver: an evaluation of micro-focused ultrasound with visualisation on the décolletage, a clinical and pathologic study in Asian skin, a review of the newer ultrasound techniques, a quantitative analysis of face and neck tightening in Asian patients, and a systematic review of the clinical efficacy reported across the literature.

None of them is a head-to-head trial of the two console generations, and none is cited here as evidence that one platform outperforms the other. They are listed for the mechanism that is common to both.
