About

What is laser hair removal?

Laser hair removal aims light at the pigment inside a hair, which absorbs the energy, converts it to heat and passes that heat to the follicle that grows it. Dear Clinic uses the Candela GentleMax Pro, which carries a 755 nm alexandrite and a 1064 nm Nd:YAG wavelength with dynamic cooling. What a completed course delivers is long-term reduction. It is not removal, and it is not one visit.

A course exists because of the growth cycle. Only the hairs in their active growing phase hold enough pigment to take up the energy properly, and at any given moment the rest of the follicles in an area are resting or shedding and simply will not respond — they are not missed by a careless operator, they are unreachable that day. Repeat visits catch successive waves as they enter growth. The interval is therefore set by the area and its own cycle, and never by how soon you would like to be finished.

The same mechanism sets the limits. Grey, white and very fine blonde hairs carry little of the pigment the laser is looking for, so they respond poorly whatever the device, and no setting recovers what is not there. Because the target is pigment, your skin tone changes the calculation as much as your hair does — which is what the second wavelength on this platform exists to solve.

Both wavelengths sit on one platform, so the choice is made per patient and per area.
Treatment Areas

Which areas are priced and planned separately

Seventeen areas are published for women and nineteen for men, each as a single session and as a course of five. A jawline and a lower leg share nothing in coarseness, cycle or sensitivity, so they are never grouped into one figure.

01

Face & upper lip

Upper lip, chin, the three-line forehead, lower face and full face — where full face means forehead included and hairline excluded, since the hairline is its own published area. Fine facial hair answers more slowly than body hair, and that is said before a course is booked.

02

Underarms & arms

The most popular starting area — small, quick and a fair test of how your own hair responds before committing to anything larger.

03

Legs, back & chest

Larger fields, where session time and cooling matter most. Back, abdomen and arm are each split into upper and lower halves on the price list; legs are split into thigh and calf-with-knee.

04

Bikini line & Brazilian

Coarse hair on thin, sensitive skin. Settings stay conservative and cooling is generous here as a deliberate technique choice.

Why the platform matters

Two wavelengths, every skin tone

A single-wavelength device forces one compromise on every patient. Carrying both lets the wavelength follow the person in the chair.

01 — 755 NM ALEXANDRITE

Strong uptake, lighter skin

The alexandrite wavelength is absorbed avidly by melanin, which makes it efficient on fine and light-coloured hair, provided the surrounding skin is fair enough for that appetite to work as an advantage instead of a hazard.

02 — 1064 NM ND:YAG

Deeper reach, darker skin tones

The Nd:YAG wavelength is far less interested in the pigment in your skin and travels deeper to the follicle, which is why it is the long-standing choice for deeper phototypes and for tanned skin — a point the published comparative literature is unusually clear about.

03 — DYNAMIC COOLING

The surface is protected pulse by pulse

Dynamic cooling delivers a cryogen burst to the skin surface with each pulse, taking the edge off the sensation and shielding the epidermis while the heat does its work below it.

Why the wavelength choice is made by a doctor here

01 — THE PUBLISHED GRID

Seventeen areas for women, nineteen for men

Each area is published twice, as one session and as a course of five, and the five-session figure sits below five separate visits. The men's grid adds sideburns and neck. Ingrown bumps and darkening are sometimes a skin complaint, and where the assessment reads it that way you are pointed at the pigment or acne platform instead.

02 — DIAGNOSIS FIRST

Skin tone is read before a wavelength is picked

Skin tone, recent sun exposure and hair coarseness are assessed with EVE Muse 3D imaging under five light sources and AI analysis before any setting is dialled in. Visitors arrive here with every phototype and, in summer, with a fresh holiday tan on top of it, and that reading is what decides whether the session goes ahead at all that day.

03 — DIRECTOR-PERFORMED

Settings change between a jaw and a shin

Wavelength selection and test spots are medical decisions rather than console presets. Treatment is director-performed, and the settings are adjusted as the handpiece moves from thin facial skin onto the tougher skin of a shin.

Published rates as of September 2026. Areas are priced individually for women and for men, and the full grid — seventeen women's areas, nineteen men's, each as a single session and as a course of five — is on the full price list. Underarm is the cheapest way to test how your own hair responds before committing to a larger field. One published rate applies to residents and visitors alike, and sessions run seven days a week; see weekend and holiday opening.

Caution

The days after a hair removal session

Redness and small raised bumps around each follicle are the expected reaction and usually calm within a day or so.
Treated hairs are shed over the following days and can look like regrowth as they work their way out — let them, and do not pluck or wax.
Daily sunscreen on exposed areas is not optional, and sunbathing or a tanning bed before or after a session raises the risk of an uneven response.
Keep saunas, hot baths, swimming pools and hard exercise aside for a couple of days, and skip strong acids or retinoids on the treated skin until it feels settled.
Blistering, crusting, unusual darkening or lightening of the skin, and anything that worsens instead of improving should be reported to the clinic straight away. Tell us at consultation about medication, recent sun exposure, tanning products, and whether you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

FAQ

Laser hair removal, answered

Is laser hair removal worth it?
For dark hair on an area you are tired of shaving, it usually is: a completed course leaves markedly less hair, what grows back is finer and slower, and the shaving irritation tends to leave with it. For pale or grey hair it is not worth your money, and that is said at consultation before a booking is taken.
Is the result permanent?
No. What the clinical literature supports is long-term reduction: a lasting drop in the amount, thickness and visibility of hair in a treated area. That is a different claim from a permanent end to growth, and it is the only one made here. Occasional maintenance sessions keep an area where you want it once the main course is finished.
How much does laser hair removal cost in Seoul?
Underarm is ₩30,000 (≈ $20) per session for women and ₩50,000 (≈ $35) for men at Dear Clinic, with a women's underarm course of five at ₩75,000 (≈ $55). Full face is ₩150,000 (≈ $105) for women and ₩250,000 (≈ $180) for men. Every area is on the published price list at the same rate for visitors and residents.
Can I have it if I have dark or deeper-toned skin?
Yes — this is precisely why a second wavelength is on the platform. The 1064 nm Nd:YAG is far less absorbed by pigment in the skin itself and reaches the follicle without treating the surface as a target, and comparative studies in darker phototypes are a well-established part of the literature. Your tone is assessed and a test area is used before a full pass.
How many sessions will I need?
More than one, and the number depends on the area, your hair coarseness and your own growth cycle. Courses are published in blocks of five because five is a realistic block, and your director reviews progress as the course runs. Some areas need occasional maintenance afterwards, which is expected behaviour from a growth cycle and not a failed course.
Does it hurt, and is there downtime afterwards?
Each pulse feels like a hot flick against the skin, strongest on coarse hair and thin skin such as the bikini area or upper lip. The dynamic cooling burst fires with the pulse and takes a good deal of that away, and if a zone is sharply worse the settings and cooling are adjusted instead of pushed through. Downtime is practically none: redness and small bumps around the follicles for a day, then the sauna, the pool and hard exercise on hold for a couple of days. Most people come in on a lunch break and go straight back to the rest of the day.
Do I shave before my appointment?
Yes — shave the area a day or so before so the follicle is intact but nothing is left above the skin to burn. Do not wax, pluck or use hair-removal cream for several weeks beforehand, because those pull out the very target the laser needs to find.
What if I have a tan?
Tell us, and expect us to be conservative. Recently tanned skin holds more pigment at the surface, which changes both the safe setting and the risk of an uneven result. Depending on the area we may adjust the wavelength and settings, use a test spot, or ask you to come back once the tan has faded.
Can men have facial and body hair removal here?
Yes. Beard-line shaping, neck, chest and back are regular requests, and the men's grid runs to nineteen published areas, adding sideburns and neck to the women's list. Men's areas carry their own rates because the hair is typically coarser and the field larger. Beard work is planned with you point by point, since the goal is usually a defined line and not a cleared jaw.
Can I have my first session on the day I consult?
Usually yes, if the assessment clears your skin tone and the area is already shaved when you arrive. Diagnosis and doctor consultation take about half an hour and the session can follow immediately. Dear Clinic is open 365 days a year, Sundays and public holidays included, so an underarm session fits inside one free morning of a short trip.
Will it help with ingrown hairs?
Often, yes. Fewer and finer hairs in an area means fewer of them curling back into the skin, which is one of the more appreciated side benefits of a completed course. If the bumps are actually folliculitis or a pigmentation issue, that is a skin problem needing its own treatment, and the diagnosis will separate the two.
Is the price the same for international visitors, and how do I book?
One published price list covers everyone; KRW is what you pay and USD is shown for reference. Send the consultation form with your travel dates, the areas you want treated and a note of your natural skin tone and any recent sun; that is enough for us to quote the areas and flag anything that would postpone a session. We reply in English within one business day and hold the slot without a deposit.

Scientific Evidence

Science behind 755 nm and 1064 nm hair reduction — peer-reviewed references

The two wavelengths carried by the GentleMax Pro are among the most examined tools in aesthetic medicine, and a good part of that literature deals specifically with darker skin phototypes. That is the basis for what this page says about deeper tones. A systematic review of long-term reduction across lasers and light sources sits alongside those comparisons below.

All references carry verifiable DOIs from indexed journals. They describe the technology in general clinical use; the number of sessions and the settings for your own hair and skin tone are decided at your diagnosis.
