Filler vs Skin Booster in Korea

Filler vs Skin Booster

They are both injectables, but they solve two different problems — one shapes and adds volume, the other rehydrates and rebuilds the skin itself. Here is how a Cheongdam clinic decides between them.

The Short Answer

What separates a filler from a booster

A filler adds structural volume in a targeted spot — it lifts a chin, straightens a nose bridge, restores a hollow cheek — by placing hyaluronic acid (HA) at a chosen anatomical layer. A skin booster does not shape anything; it is spread finely across an area to rehydrate and stimulate the skin's own collagen, improving texture, fine lines and that inner glow. Filler changes contour. Boosters change skin quality.

The confusion is reasonable, since both arrive in a syringe and both get filed under "injectables" on a menu. Choosing wrongly is expensive in a specific way: a booster dispersed through the skin over a flat chin does nothing measurable to its projection, and the syringe is spent either way. Your EVE Muse 3D + AI diagnosis reads which of the two deficits you actually have, under five light sources, before any product is named.

This is a general guide. Which HA gel or which booster chemistry suits your skin, and whether you need one, the other or both, is settled at your diagnosis.

Material

A filler is cross-linked hyaluronic acid: the chains are bonded so the gel holds a shape against tissue pressure. Boosters are a mixed shelf with no single chemistry — Rejuran is PDRN, Juvelook pairs PDLLA with HA, Sculptra is PLLA, Radiesse is CaHA, and Skinvive is HA that has been left uncross-linked precisely so it will not hold a shape. The one thing they share is that the visible change comes from what your own skin does around the material.

Layer

Filler is placed at a chosen structural depth, deep or mid, often against bone or under a fat compartment where it can support something. A booster is dispersed as micro-droplets through the dermis and a little below it. Same needle, different destination.

Onset

Filler is judged in the mirror before you leave, allowing for swelling. A booster shows nothing that day and is judged at review, once the collagen response has had time to happen; patients who expect a same-week glow from a booster are the ones who leave disappointed, which is why the timeline is explained at the consultation and again before you book.

Upkeep

One filler appointment usually stands on its own and is reviewed when it softens. Boosters are built as a short course of sessions and then maintained. Neither interval is printed here, because both depend on the product, the volume and your own metabolism, and a number on a page is a poor substitute for the one your director gives you after examining your skin.

Taking it back

Hyaluronic acid filler can be broken down with hyaluronidase, so an overfilled contour is correctable in a single short appointment. Most boosters have no eraser; PDRN, PLLA and CaHA are worked through by the body over time and cannot be dissolved on request. That asymmetry is the reason a booster plan is written conservatively at the start.

When we prescribe neither

Some faces get sent away from both syringes. If the scan reads descent — an outline that has dropped rather than a surface that has thinned — we do not recommend either injectable, and a lifting protocol is quoted instead. If the concern is pigment, a booster will not touch it and a laser will. And if you are within a few days of a wedding or a flight, we decline the booking and offer a date that leaves room for swelling to settle.

Dear, Knowhow

How Dear decides filler or booster

The decision is made in three steps, in this order: read the deficit, pick the chemistry, then set the layer and the dose.

01 — WHAT THE SCAN SEPARATES

A volume deficit and a surface deficit

A hollow that needs filling and a surface that has lost its water read differently under the EVE Muse five-light capture: the first moves the shadow map, the second moves the texture and pore analysis. The scan is run before either product is named.

02 — BOTH SHELVES IN THE BUILDING

The filler side and the booster side

The Chaeum, Belotero, Restylane and Juvederm sit on one side; Rejuran, Juvelook, Sculptra and Radiesse sit on the other. Nothing has to be substituted for a product we do not stock.

03 — LAYER AND DOSE

Where each material is put

Filler is layered across Deep, Mid and Superficial depths with minimum-unit dosing, and on a small zone the gap between a good result and an obvious one can be 0.1 cc in one of those planes. A booster is dispersed the opposite way, as micro-droplets spread so that nothing gathers anywhere, which makes coverage the thing that decides the outcome. Both are performed by our directors.

Pricing

How much do filler and boosters
cost in Seoul?

At Dear Clinic in Cheongdam, HA filler starts at ₩130,000 (≈ $95) per 1 cc with The Chaeum, and the entry booster is Juvelook Volume at ₩100,000 per 1 cc. Note what the units are doing: filler is sold by the cc, Rejuran Healer by the 2 cc pack and Sculptra by the vial, so two rows on the card are not always comparable at a glance. Residents and international visitors are quoted from the same published list.
InjectableUnitPrice
The Chaeum filler1 cc₩130,000 (≈ $95)
Belotero (Germany) filler1 cc₩300,000 (≈ $215)
Juvelook Volume booster1 cc₩100,000 (≈ $70)
Rejuran Healer booster2 cc₩300,000 (≈ $215)
Sculptra collagen booster1 vial₩1,200,000 (≈ $855)

Published rates as of September 2026. Specialty zones such as the earlobe, the forehead and the shoulder line carry their own higher rate, since the difficulty sits in the access. Your full plan is approved by you before treatment and nothing is added to it mid-session.

Caution

After your injectable

After filler, the shape in the mirror on the way out is not the settled one: swelling can exaggerate a fresh contour for two or three days before it reads true.
After a booster, small raised beads sit where each droplet went in. They flatten as the fluid absorbs, usually within a day or two.
Bruising is the likelier nuisance with filler, because the needle travels deeper and crosses more vessels on the way to the plane it is aiming for.
Heat and alcohol widen vessels and make both kinds of swelling worse, so hold off the sauna, the jjimjilbang and the wine for a few days.
Keep acids, retinoids and any scrubbing or rolling device out of the routine while booster entry points close over.
Firmness that grows instead of fading, a lump still palpable weeks later, or skin turning pale or dusky near an entry point is a same-day call to us; do not wait for the review appointment.

FAQ

Filler vs skin booster, answered

What is the actual difference between filler and a skin booster?
The materials differ before the technique does. A filler is cross-linked hyaluronic acid, bonded so it holds a shape under tissue pressure, and it is placed as a deposit at one structural depth. A booster is PDRN, PDLLA-HA, PLLA, CaHA or uncross-linked HA, dispersed through the dermis in droplets that are meant to spread. One is asked to occupy space; the other is asked to provoke a response.
Which one should I get for tired, dull skin?
A booster. Dullness, dehydration and fine crepiness sit in the surface of the skin, and a gel placed under it changes nothing you can see. Rejuran works through PDRN, Juvelook pairs PDLLA with HA, and both are built over a short course of sessions instead of one appointment.
Which one should I get to reshape my chin or nose?
Filler. Building projection on a chin, straightening a nose bridge or restoring a cheek is structural work that needs a firmer HA gel placed at a specific depth. A booster cannot create that kind of shape. See our dedicated chin filler page for detail.
Can I have filler and a skin booster at the same time?
Yes, and it is common — filler builds the structure while a booster refines the skin over it. At Dear Clinic we sequence them correctly so nothing competes, and both are planned from one 3D diagnosis so your total volume and cost are agreed in advance.
Is filler or a skin booster worth it for me?
Only the diagnosis answers that, because the two spend money on completely different results. Filler buys a change of shape you can photograph the same afternoon. A booster buys a change in the surface that arrives at review, and it is poor value bought impatiently. The scan tells you which deficit you actually have, and it occasionally reports neither.
How much do they cost in Korea?
HA filler starts at ₩130,000 (≈ $95) per 1 cc with The Chaeum, and the entry booster, Juvelook Volume, is ₩100,000 per 1 cc. Read the unit before you compare rows: Rejuran Healer is sold as a 2 cc pack at ₩300,000 (≈ $215) and Sculptra by the vial at ₩1,200,000 (≈ $855). Specialty zones such as the earlobe carry a higher rate for the same gel.
Which lasts longer?
Filler holds longer from a single appointment, because it stays in place as a depot until the body breaks the hyaluronic acid down. A booster leaves no depot at all, so what persists is the collagen response it provoked, and that is topped up while it is still working. We do not publish month figures for either: they move with the product, the volume, the area and your own metabolism, and your director gives you a range for your own plan after examining the skin.
Do they hurt, and is there downtime?
Both use fine needles under topical numbing, and most HA fillers carry lidocaine in the gel itself. The trade is in what you see afterwards: filler goes deeper and bruises more readily, while a booster leaves a scatter of small beads across the treated field that flatten within a day or two. Neither normally costs you an evening.
Are they reversible?
HA filler can be dissolved with an enzyme if you ever want it removed or adjusted. Skin boosters are not "reversed," but their effect simply fades over time as the material is naturally broken down, so there is nothing permanent to undo.
Can I get treated on the same day as my consultation?
Usually. The EVE 3D reading and the director's consultation happen in the same visit, and if suitability is confirmed the injection follows immediately. There is one caveat worth knowing before you plan the trip: a booster course is built over several sessions, so a single visit starts it rather than completes it. Filler finishes in one. We are open 365 days a year, holidays included.
Do prices differ for international visitors, and how do I book?
No. One published list covers residents and visitors alike; KRW is what you pay and USD is shown for reference. Send the form below with your travel dates and we reply in English within one business day, holding the slot without a deposit. If you are considering a booster course, say how many days you have in Seoul, because that changes which of the two we recommend starting with.
If I can only do one on this trip, which should come first?
Filler, in almost every case where both are indicated. It resolves in one visit, it is the half of the plan that can be dissolved if you change your mind, and it sets the structure the booster is later asked to refine. A booster started on a short trip gives you the first session of a course and no visible result to take home, which is a poor souvenir. Your director will say plainly if your own scan reverses that order.
