Is It Safe to Get Botox in Cheongdam, Gangnam, Seoul?

Botulinum toxin is a prescription medicine with a long clinical record and a real list of things it can do wrong. Four variables decide how that record applies to you: which product tier is drawn up, how many units go where, who injects them, and whether anyone was willing to tell you not to.

The short answer

How safe a botulinum toxin injection actually is

It is one of the most studied aesthetic injections there is, and it is temporary by nature, which limits how permanent a mistake can be. The problems that do occur are nearly all dose and placement problems: a unit landing in a neighbouring muscle, or too many units in a muscle the face was relying on.

That is a more useful answer than a reassurance, because it tells you what to examine. A vial is a manufactured product with a specification. A dose is a judgement made about your anatomy on the day. Almost every unwanted outcome people describe after an injection belongs to the second category, and no amount of confidence about the first fixes it.

What the molecule does, which areas are treated here and what each one is quoted at is set out across the botulinum toxin category page and the printed rate page. This page stays with safety: product tiers, dose discipline, the conditions that make us decline, what can go wrong, and how each of those is handled.

The Vial

Korean and imported toxin tiers, and what the difference actually is

Every application at Dear is published in two tiers. The wrinkle line is the clearest illustration, because it is the one most people book first.

TIER 01

The Korean tier

Domestically manufactured botulinum toxin type A, the tier most treatments here are performed with. One wrinkle area is published at ₩30,000 (≈ $20). Korea manufactures several of these products at scale, and they are the reason toxin work in Seoul is priced the way it is.

TIER 02

The imported tier

Longer-established international products, carried here for patients who ask for them by name or who have a history with one. The same single wrinkle area on the imported end of the card is ₩150,000 (≈ $105), and four published tiers sit between and around those two figures.

WHAT IT CHANGES

Less than the injector does

All of them are botulinum toxin type A, and the published pharmacology work treats them as a product class with differences in formulation and unit definition. What changes your result far more is where the units are placed and how many of them go in.

Two practical things follow from that. Ask which tier your quote assumes before you agree to it, because a figure quoted without a tier is not a quote. And ask for the tier to be named on your record, so that a second appointment can repeat or deliberately change what was used. Both requests are normal here and neither will be met with a sales conversation.

The Hand

Why toxin injections here are given by a director and nobody else

Doctor-performed treatment is one of the four promises the clinic was built on, and toxin is the treatment where it matters most bluntly. Placing units is anatomy work done through skin: the injector is aiming at a muscle belly that cannot be seen, using landmarks, palpation and an understanding of how your face moves. A millimetre of drift in the upper face is the difference between a softened line and a heavy brow.

So the person who examines you, watches you frown, squint and clench, and writes the dose map is the person who injects it, and the same doctor sees you at the review. That continuity is not a courtesy. When something needs adjusting two weeks later, a doctor reading their own marks works faster than a doctor reading a stranger's notes.

Our medical staff are listed in full below, with their licences and their fields. Two of the five are board-certified in Family Medicine, and the clinic does not claim specialties it does not hold.

Dose Discipline

Four rules that keep a botulinum toxin dose inside safe territory

None of them are exciting. All four are where safety actually lives.

The muscle you have decides the units, and nobody else's does. A strong frowning muscle and a weak one do not take the same amount. Doses copied from a friend's appointment or from a video are the commonest route to both under-treatment and a frozen upper face.
A first session is deliberately conservative. Adding at a review is straightforward. Removing is not possible, because there is no reversal agent for this molecule; you wait for it to wear off. That asymmetry is the entire argument for starting low, and it is why we will decline a request to go heavier on a first visit.
Depth and spacing are part of the dose. Units placed too superficially or too close to a boundary can reach a muscle that was not on the plan. The upper face and the area around the mouth are where this shows fastest, which is why the point map is drawn before anything is drawn up.
Volume work and expression work are separated. Larger amounts are used for a muscular jawline or for body muscle, small diluted amounts for skin work. Treating a lower face as though it were a body muscle is how a face ends up looking hollowed instead of slimmer, so those plans are written differently from the start.

Units, areas and the tier are read back to you and approved before the first injection, and the approved map goes on your record. If a plan changes on the table, it is explained and agreed at that moment.

Declined

Who we turn away from a botulinum toxin appointment

Five findings. The last one is the one that costs a clinic money to say out loud.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding. Elective injectable treatment waits, without exception and without discussion.
Neuromuscular disease, or medication that affects the neuromuscular junction. Conditions such as myasthenia gravis and certain antibiotics interact with how this molecule works. These must be disclosed at the consultation, and where they are present we do not treat.
Active infection or inflamed skin at the intended points. The appointment is postponed until the skin is clear. Injecting through inflammation risks carrying it deeper.
A previous reaction, or a plan that would stack on recent treatment. Any prior injection of this molecule, anywhere, with its approximate date, is needed before a dose is written. Treating too soon after a previous session is a dosing error made across two appointments instead of one.
A complaint the muscle is not causing. Where the scan finds fat, bone, skin laxity, a gland or a line that sits there at rest, relaxing a muscle will not answer it. We do not recommend an injection in that case and say what would, which is often something from the lifting category or the filler category instead.

Blood-thinning medication and bleeding disorders are not automatic refusals; they change the bruising you should expect and sometimes the approach, so they belong on the disclosure list with everything above. Comfort measures during a session are confirmed at your consultation and set to the area being treated.

What Can Go Wrong

The unwanted outcomes after botulinum toxin, and how each one is handled

Named plainly, because a list you can recognise is more use than a promise you cannot check.

What you might noticeWhy it happensHow it is managed here
Bruising and small raised marks at the pointsA needle crossing a tiny vessel in the skinOrdinary and short-lived; disclosed medication and bleeding history let us anticipate it and plan the timing around your travel
Headache or a tight feeling in the first daysThe muscle adjusting to reduced contractionExpected in some people and self-limiting; told to you before you leave so it is not a surprise at the hotel
A heavy brow or a dropped lidProduct reaching a muscle that holds the brow or the eyelid upTemporary. It is reviewed, documented, and the point map is revised for next time; there is no reversal agent, so the whole management is to let it wear off
Asymmetry between the two sidesMuscles that were never symmetrical, or uneven uptakeAssessed at the two-week review, where a small correction on the lighter side is usually the whole fix
An expression that reads as flatToo many units across too many pointsPrevented by a conservative first plan; if it happens, it resolves with time and the next dose map is written lighter
A changed smile after lower-face or masseter workDiffusion into muscles that lift the corner of the mouthPoint placement and depth are what prevent it; it is temporary, and it is one reason lower-face plans are kept deliberately modest
Swelling, spreading redness or feverInfection, which is rare but real after any injectionContact the clinic the same day. We are open every day of the year, so there is no weekend to wait through

Every row above is disclosed at consent before a first injection, and a review appointment is built into the plan instead of being an extra you have to ask for.

No Promised Number

Why no duration is promised to you on this page

You will find a confident number of months on a great many websites. We do not print one, and the reason is not modesty. How long an individual effect lasts moves with the dose placed, the size and strength of the muscle treated, how hard that muscle works in daily life, and your own metabolism. Four variables, all personal, none of them knowable from a web page.

What we do instead is give you an expected range for your own plan at consultation, once the muscle has been examined and the dose decided, and revise that estimate at your review with the first result in front of both of us. An estimate that arrives after the examination is worth more than a number printed before it.

The same discipline applies to results. A published figure cannot tell you how much of a line will soften, because part of what you see at rest may be etched into the skin and not held there by muscle. That distinction is made at the scan, and it changes the plan before it changes the price.

Dear, Knowhow

What makes a toxin appointment safer at Dear Clinic in Cheongdam

01 — DIAGNOSIS FIRST

EVE Muse separates muscle from everything it is mistaken for

Three-dimensional capture under five light sources with AI analysis, read beside a hands-on examination and your face in movement. Fat, bone, laxity, gland and a line at rest all look like a muscle problem in a mirror and none of them answer to this molecule.

02 — THE FULL ARSENAL

Six toxin applications and two tiers, all printed

Because the lifting, filler and booster categories are all in the building, a toxin plan is never the only thing on offer. Where the cause is not muscular, the recommendation that costs us a booking is made anyway.

03 — DIRECTOR-PERFORMED

The dose map and the needle belong to one doctor

Your director marks the points, injects them and reviews the result two weeks later. Nothing in a toxin plan is delegated to someone who was not in the room when your face was read.

FAQ

Botox safety in Cheongdam, question by question

Is it safe to get botox in Korea as a visitor?
The injection carries the same profile here as anywhere the same molecule is used, and the variables that matter are the tier, the dose, the injector and the consultation that precedes them. What a visitor should add to the list is timing: leave room for a review before you fly, because adjustments are made two weeks after a first session.
What product tier will be used on me?
Whichever you and your director agree on. Every application here is published in a Korean tier and an imported tier, with a single wrinkle area quoted at ₩30,000 (≈ $20) and ₩150,000 (≈ $105) at the two ends of the card. Ask for the tier to be named before you consent and recorded on your file afterwards.
Can botulinum toxin be reversed if I dislike the result?
No. There is no reversal agent for this molecule, which is exactly why a first plan here is written conservatively and why we decline requests to go heavier at a first visit. The effect is temporary by nature, so an unwanted result fades; adding at a review is easy, and taking away is not possible.
What are the most common side effects?
Bruising and small raised marks at the injection points, and sometimes a headache or a tight sensation in the first days. Those are ordinary and short-lived. The ones that need a review are a heavy brow or dropped lid, visible asymmetry, an expression that reads as flat, or a changed smile after lower-face work.
Who should not have this treatment at all?
Anyone pregnant or breastfeeding, anyone with a neuromuscular condition or on medication affecting the neuromuscular junction, and anyone with active infection at the injection points. Previous reactions and recent injections of the same molecule must be disclosed, because a dose written without that history is a dose written blind.
How long does it last?
No single number belongs on a web page. Duration moves with the dose, the muscle, how hard that muscle works and your own metabolism. Your director gives you an expected range for your own plan once the examination is done, and revises it at your review with the first result visible.
Will my face look frozen?
That is a dosing outcome, not a property of the medicine. It comes from too many units across too many points, which is why a first session here is deliberately light and the map is adjusted at review. Tell your director at the consultation how much movement you want to keep; it changes the plan.
Is jaw or body treatment riskier than wrinkle treatment?
Different, and not riskier. Larger muscles take larger amounts, and the concerns shift towards how the surrounding structures compensate, which is why those plans are kept modest and staged. The jaw page and the body page set out how each is dosed.
What should I do if something looks wrong after my injection?
Contact the clinic the same day, before anyone else. Spreading redness with heat or fever, or any change in vision, should not wait until morning. A heavy brow or an asymmetry is not an emergency, and it still wants to be documented promptly so the next dose map can be corrected.
Can I drink alcohol or fly after an injection?
Both are questions to put to your director at the appointment, because the answer depends on the area, the amount and your own bruising history. General advice on a page cannot account for those, and the aftercare instructions you are given before leaving are written for your plan and not for an average patient.
Do I need a consultation, or can I just book the injection?
A consultation comes first. The examination is what establishes that a muscle is causing the complaint, and where it turns out to be fat, bone, laxity or a line at rest, we do not recommend an injection at all. Booking straight into a needle skips the only step that decides whether the needle is right.
Is the price different for international patients, and can I come on a Sunday?
The published figures apply regardless of nationality, with no surcharge for a visitor. The clinic opens 365 days a year, weekends and public holidays included, which makes it realistic to fit both a first session and a two-week review into a longer stay. English enquiries are answered as soon as possible.

Scientific Evidence

Indexed work behind the safety statements on this page

Three indexed entries are listed below: the 1992 paper that first described treating glabellar frown lines with this toxin, a 2013 global evidence-based consensus education initiative on botulinum toxin type A in aesthetic medicine, and a 2015 paper on the pharmaceutical, biological and clinical properties of botulinum neurotoxin type A products.

The third is the reason this page treats tier as a product-class question and dose as the decisive one. Each is given as title, journal and year with a verifiable DOI, no outcome or incidence figure from any of them is reproduced here, and none of them is a statement about your own face.
