Cheekbone Projection

Can Fillers Give Natural Looking Cheekbones? Yes, if the plane is decided before the volume

Hyaluronic acid cannot add bone. It can restore the height and the forward curve that make a zygomatic line legible again — and whether the finished face reads as yours or reads as treated is settled by the layer the gel lands in, the tenths of a cc assigned to it and the proportion it is measured against.

Book a Consultation What Decides Natural
The Direct Answer

Whether hyaluronic acid can read as your own cheekbone

Yes, inside a limit worth saying plainly: hyaluronic acid is a soft gel and adds no bone. What a cheekbone design restores is the height and forward curve the mid-face has lost, so your existing zygomatic structure becomes visible again. Natural or treated is decided by the plane, the cubic centimetres and the proportion those are measured against.

A cheekbone reads as bone when the highest point of the mid-face sits where your own skeleton already rises, and when the planes around it fall away in the order a face expects — a soft descent toward the lower lid, a defined edge toward the ear, a gentle taper into the smile line. When gel is set at the top of that sequence, the eye registers structure. When the same gel is set forward of it, the eye registers a full face, and no amount of product corrects that impression afterwards.

That makes the question less about the material and more about where a given tenth of a cc is allowed to go. Your capture is taken on the EVE Muse 3D unit under five light sources, and the map it produces — how high the zygomatic base now sits, how far the soft tissue over it has travelled, how wide the face already is at that level — is what the projection figure is written against.

Four Decisions

What separates a designed cheekbone from an obvious one

Each of these is fixed in the consultation room, in front of your own capture, before treatment begins.

DecisionWhat it settles on a cheekboneWho sets it
The planeGel carried deep against the bony foundation behaves as support and the mid-face reads higher. The identical amount feathered near the surface behaves as padding and the face reads broader. Dear Clinic writes placement across three named layers — Deep, Mid and Superficial — and the layer is named before the amount.Your director, from the 3D map
The volume, in tenthsProjection is bought in very small increments over a zygomatic base, because the tissue there magnifies whatever sits under it. A plan written to 0.1 cc precision stops where structure appears.Agreed with you before treatment
The gel familyHyaluronic acid products are measurably different from each other in firmness and in how they behave under load, and a gel asked to hold height over bone is doing different mechanical work to one asked to soften a surface.Matched to the reading
Your own proportionHow far a cheek may come forward is a function of your jaw width, nose projection and brow. A face that is already wide at the zygomatic level gains definition from very little; pushing past that ratio is what turns a cheekbone into a wide face.Measured, not estimated

Nothing in the reference list at the foot of this page promises a particular appearance for a particular face. The published work establishes that fillers differ physically and that facial assessment guides placement.

The Dear Signature Technique

Four steps that keep a cheekbone looking like a bone and not a bump

The mid-face protocol runs on the same four named steps used across our filler work, applied here to height and projection.

01
Dear Shape

Find where your zygomatic line already wants to peak

The capture is read for the position of the existing bony rise, the volume that has slid down from it and the width the face already carries at that level. The map records where a high point would look native, and that point — its height, its angle, its distance from the ear — is drawn before any figure is attached to it.

02
Dear LayerFill

Build support on the bone, refine above it

The structural share of the plan is placed deep, against the foundation, where it can hold height without pressing on the mobile surface. Only after that is a finer share laid higher to smooth the transition. Each layer carries its own written allowance.

03
Dear BalanceControl

Spread the projection so one point never becomes the shape

A mid-face moves with every expression, so volume pooled at a single deposit announces itself when you smile. Placement is distributed by layer along the ridge, and the two sides are compared with you sitting upright while the session runs, because asymmetry here is easier to prevent than to correct.

04
Dear LineFit

Check the new height against the rest of the face

Projection is judged against the jaw outline, the nose and the brow, and against how the light now falls from the cheek into the smile line. A cheekbone that works in front view and collapses in profile has not been finished.

Every step is performed by your director, who also drew the map. The mid-face carries named vessels and the plane that produces lift sits under the muscle, so the person who decided the depth is the person working at that depth.

The Gels Available For A Mid-Face

Which hyaluronic acid family holds a cheekbone

01 — THE KOREAN HOUSE GEL

The Chaeum, on the ordinary per-cc line

Our Korean-made family, billed by the cubic centimetre. The specialty-area rate at this clinic is reserved for the lips and the temple, so an anterior cheek or a zygomatic build is quoted from the standard column.

02 — GERMAN, FOR INTEGRATION

Belotero and its multi-density structure

Produced by a patented CPM process that leaves very few nodules and binds across tissue of differing density, supplied in four lines so the choice can follow skin type and placement depth.

03 — IMPORTED, FOR HEIGHT

Restylane and Juvederm where projection must hold

Restylane is the family that introduced hyaluronic acid filler, developed in Sweden in 1996 and certified by the FDA and CE. Juvederm is built on Vycross cross-linking, is firm and cohesive in consistency, and its particle size is adjusted to the area being treated.

Why the brand column matters as much as the number of syringes

A gel selected to carry height deep against bone is not interchangeable with one selected to soften a surface, and a cheekbone plan frequently uses both — a firmer family below, a more integrating one above. That is a clinical decision made from your capture, and it is agreed with you before treatment, together with the total cubic centimetres.

Where the reading shows the mid-face has descended without emptying, our answer is a lifting session and no syringe at all. Volume placed into laxity is the surest way to finish heavier than you started, and we say so in the room. The lifting platforms and the full filler card are both in this building, which is why the recommendation can go either way.

Where The Answer Is No

When a cheekbone should not be built from a syringe

A design that suits your face is also a design somebody was willing to refuse. These are the readings that end with us declining the treatment or proposing a different one, and they are given to you on the day of the diagnosis.
The scan reads laxity where you expected lost volume. Descent and deflation look identical in a photograph and behave in opposite directions under gel. A mid-face that has slipped without emptying is quoted an energy session first, and we do not recommend adding cubic centimetres to it.
You are asking for an edge the skin cannot carry. A hard shelf along the zygomatic ridge is a request we turn down. Over thin tissue, gel pushed toward a sharp border shows its outline in raking light and at certain angles, and the correction for that is removal.
The face is already wide at that level. Where the measurement says the width is there and the height is not, the plan is small and deep, or it is a different treatment. Chasing projection past your own ratio is the mechanism behind the look nobody books for.
There is active inflammation or infection near the entry points. Treatment is postponed until the skin has calmed.

The risks belong beside those limits. Bruising at an entry point and swelling for the first days are ordinary. A lump, a visible edge or a short-lived asymmetry can occur and is usually correctable, including by dissolving. The serious risk is vascular: hyaluronic acid entering a vessel can cause skin necrosis and, very rarely, visual loss, which is why the facial danger zones are mapped before placement, why injection is slow and at low pressure, and why hyaluronidase is kept within reach.

If You Change Your Mind

A cheekbone built from hyaluronic acid can be taken back down

Every gel on our filler card for this area is hyaluronic acid, and hyaluronic acid responds to a hyaluronidase enzyme injection. A projection that turned out too forward for your face can be reduced in part, and a design you no longer want can be cleared. That matters more on a mid-face than almost anywhere else, because the mid-face is the area where a small excess is most visible from the side.

Our own guidance on removal is not unconditional: where a long period has passed and the material has fibrosed into firmer tissue, one session may not clear it completely, and the area is examined in person first. What reversibility buys you is the freedom to start conservatively, look at the settled result in your own light, and add later if the reading still supports it.

A frontal view is the harder one to read a mid-face in, which is part of the point: what you are looking for is a face carrying light differently, with no new outline at the sides. The cheek filler page holds the full treatment, its anatomy and further cases.

Published Rates

What a cheekbone design is charged at, per cc

Billing follows the cubic centimetre, and the mid-face is quoted from the standard column: our specialty-area rate applies to the lips and the temple only. You are charged for the volume actually placed, and both the family and the total cc are approved by you before a syringe is opened.

The same card applies to residents of Seoul and to international patients, with no visitor surcharge, and consultation is conducted in English. Nothing is added during the session: if the design is written for two cc and one and a half turn out to be enough, you are billed for one and a half. The transparent price list carries every other published rate in the clinic, and the full face filler programme is where a mid-face is planned alongside the rest of the face.

FAQ

Natural cheekbone design, question by question

Can fillers give natural looking cheekbones?
They can, within a limit worth stating: hyaluronic acid is a soft gel and adds no bone. What it restores is the height and the forward curve the mid-face has lost, so the structure you already have becomes readable again. Whether the finished face looks like yours depends on the plane the gel is carried in, the tenths of a cc assigned to it, the family chosen and the proportion the projection is measured against at your diagnosis.
Can filler sharpen the actual bone, or only the tissue over it?
Only the tissue. The gel sits in soft tissue layers above the skeleton, so what changes is the contour the light reads, not the skeleton itself. A high point placed where your zygomatic base already rises borrows definition from your own structure; a high point placed away from it reads as an addition, which is the whole reason the map is drawn first.
How much filler does a cheekbone design usually take?
There is no standard figure here, and quoting one before a face has been measured would be arithmetic rather than planning. The mid-face is a structural area, so it is often written for more volume than a small feature, but the amount is set from your capture and it is written in tenths of a cc against a named layer. You approve that total before treatment starts.
Which hyaluronic acid is used for cheekbone projection?
Four families are stocked: our Korean house gel, Belotero from Germany, Restylane and Juvederm. Firmer, more cohesive products are generally asked to carry height deep against the bone, while an integrating gel is chosen where a transition has to stay soft. A single plan often uses two. The choice is made from the reading and confirmed with you.
Will my face look wider after cheekbone filler?
That is the risk the planning exists to manage. Width comes from volume placed forward and shallow, or from projection pushed past what your jaw and brow proportion supports. Volume set deep and high does the opposite. Where the measurement shows a face already wide at that level, the plan is small and deep, or the honest recommendation is a different treatment entirely.
Is cheekbone filler charged at the specialty-area rate?
No. Dear Clinic reserves the specialty-area rate for the lips and the temple, so a cheek is quoted from the standard per-cc column: ₩130,000 (≈ $95) per cc with our Korean family, and the imported families at their own listed per-cc rates. Billing follows the volume actually placed.
How long before a cheekbone design looks settled?
Swelling makes a fresh mid-face look fuller than the plan intends, and that extra volume is water bound to the gel. Judging the projection while it is present is not useful, so a review is arranged with you at the consultation and the design is read there once the area has calmed. How quickly that happens differs between people.
What happens if I dislike the projection once it settles?
Hyaluronic acid responds to a hyaluronidase enzyme injection, so the design can be partly reduced or cleared without waiting for it to resorb. Where a long period has passed and the material has fibrosed into firmer tissue, a single session may not remove it completely. The area is examined in person before either dissolving or adjusting is agreed.
Are men's cheekbone plans designed differently?
The measurements change, so the plan changes. A male mid-face is generally read for a flatter, more lateral high point sitting lower on the ridge, and for a straighter transition into the jaw outline. The four steps are the same; the target coordinates that come out of the capture are not.
What are the risks of injecting over the cheekbone?
Bruising at the entry points and swelling through the first days are ordinary and pass. A lump, a visible edge or a temporary asymmetry can occur and is usually correctable, including by dissolving. The serious risk is vascular: gel entering a vessel can cause skin necrosis and, very rarely, visual loss. Placement is therefore slow, at low pressure and in mapped planes, performed by a director with hyaluronidase to hand.
Can a cheekbone plan be combined with a lifting treatment?
Frequently it is sequenced rather than combined, and the order comes out of the scan. Where the mid-face shows both descent and lost volume, an energy session is usually quoted first and a smaller volume afterwards, because tightening changes how much gel the area still needs. The clinic is open 365 days, so the sequence can be arranged around a short trip.

Scientific Evidence

Peer-reviewed references behind the four cheekbone decisions

None of the papers below describes a cheekbone plan for an individual face, and neither does this page. What they document is that hyaluronic acid products are physically distinguishable from one another, how facial assessment is used to guide injection, which planes of the face carry vascular danger, and how hyaluronic acid is removed when a design has to come back down.
