Melasma Treatment in Cheongdam, Gangnam, Seoul

Melasma is a relapsing pigment condition, and the work here is a managed course measured in months. Three routes are actually run: low-fluence toning as a block, a vascular laser where redness sits under the patch, and a single-visit custom laser plan.

The condition

What drives melasma, and what brings it back

Melasma is a chronic pigment disorder in which pigment-producing cells over-respond to triggers — ultraviolet and visible light, heat, hormonal shifts and friction — and deposit pigment in symmetrical patches across the cheeks, forehead, upper lip and jaw margin. The triggers persist, so the condition relapses.

A patch is the visible output of cells that keep being provoked, so stripping the output aggressively often provokes them further. That is the mechanism behind the rebound so many people describe after a holiday or an over-enthusiastic course somewhere in their history.

Depth matters as much as trigger. Pigment held high in the skin answers faster and holds its improvement less well; pigment sitting deeper answers slowly and needs patience measured in months. Most faces carry a mixture, in different proportions on the left and right side, which is why two people with what looks like the same patch are given different schedules.

Diagnosis

How the EVE Muse scan separates melasma from the marks it is mistaken for

EVE Muse 3D imaging captures the face under five light sources with AI analysis. Different lights reach different depths, so what reads as one brown patch in a mirror resolves into separate problems on screen.

01

Melasma patches

Broad, soft-edged and roughly symmetrical, worse after sun or heat, and typically mixed in depth. This is the pattern the toning blocks below are written for.

02

Sun spots and freckles

Discrete, sharp-edged marks scattered without symmetry. They behave differently from a melasma patch and are usually addressed as individual lesions, not as a field.

03

Deeper birthmark pigment

Slate or blue-grey pigment such as a nevus of Ota sits far below the melasma layer. It is a separate diagnosis with a separate plan, and calling it melasma wastes a course.

04

Redness beneath the brown

Standing vascular flush under a patch changes both how dark it looks and how it behaves. Where the scan finds it, the vascular component is treated on its own route.

What is offered

The melasma routes Dear Clinic actually runs

Three routes are available for melasma here. A low-fluence toning block with in-clinic skincare, in a dual or triple configuration, is the main line. A vascular laser handles the redness component where the scan finds one. A single-visit custom laser plan covers the case where a block is not the right shape.

Figures current for September 2026 in KRW, with a USD equivalent shown for orientation only; a Seoul resident and a visitor are quoted the identical line. In-clinic skincare is part of the toning figure, while the Excel V line covers the laser alone. Each device has its own page — laser toning and Excel V — and everything published sits on the price list.

Which route

Choosing between a toning block, Excel V and a one-day plan

The scan decides this, but the reasoning is worth knowing before you walk in.

01

When a toning block is the sensible buy

A broad, symmetrical field of mixed depth, no untreated vascular component, and a person who can attend across several months. Ten sessions are published as a block because that is roughly the span over which a field is judged.

02

When Excel V goes first

Standing redness or visible vessels under the brown. Treating those with a pigment-directed pass leaves the flush intact and the patch still looking dark, so the vascular route is run first or alongside, and its line is quoted separately at ₩150,000 (≈ $105).

03

When one custom visit answers better

A defined problem, a single trip, or a face whose mixture does not suit a repeating block. The Dear Custom One-Day Laser is assembled at diagnosis and charged as one visit at ₩400,000 (≈ $285), with the plan stated before anything is switched on.

Dear, Knowhow

How a melasma plan is settled at Dear Clinic

01 — THE FULL ARSENAL

The pigment route competes with the vascular one

Toning, a vascular platform and a single-visit custom plan all sit in this building at published rates. A field with redness underneath is sent to the vascular line even though the toning block is the larger sale.

02 — DIAGNOSIS FIRST

Pigment depth is read before a block is offered

EVE Muse 3D imaging under five light sources with AI analysis establishes how much of the patch sits high, how much sits deep, whether vessels are involved and whether the mark is melasma at all. A block of ten is only put on the table once that reading supports one, which is why the plan arrives after the scan.

03 — DIRECTOR-PERFORMED

Fluence dialled down, or the visit called off

Sessions are director-performed, and low fluence only stays low if someone is watching the skin between passes. Where a face is already irritated or the field has stopped answering, energy is reduced or the session is cancelled.

Expectations

What a melasma course can and cannot change

The realistic target is a patch that reads lighter and covers less ground, held there by maintenance and sun discipline. Nobody here calls that a cure, because the triggers that produced the patch are still in your life. Long-term follow-up of low-fluence toning is published and is mixed: it helps many people and holds unevenly.

There are named risks, and two of them are specific to repeated low-fluence work. Mottled hypopigmentation — small pale dots where pigment cells have been pushed too hard — is documented in case reports and histology studies, and it is the reason energy is kept conservative and intervals respected instead of compressed. Rebound darkening after over-treatment is the other. Beyond those, expect transient redness and warmth, and the possibility of post-inflammatory pigment if the skin is irritated. Results vary between individuals.

A pregnancy or a recent hormonal change is discussed before a block is sold, because the trigger may still be active
A face that is currently inflamed, peeling or sunburnt is rescheduled, not treated at a lower setting
Where the scan shows a deeper birthmark pattern instead of melasma, we do not recommend a toning block and say so
If two or three sessions show the field is not answering, the plan is stopped and reconsidered instead of running to the end of the block

Caution

Sun, heat and the months between toning visits

Broad-spectrum sunscreen every morning and re-applied through the day; ultraviolet and visible light both provoke the patch.
A hat and shade are doing real work here, because no sunscreen holds up through a long afternoon outdoors on its own.
Heat counts as a trigger in its own right, so saunas, long hot showers and hot yoga are worth pulling back on during a course.
Keep home care gentle between visits and clear any acid, retinoid or prescription cream with your director first.
Friction from scrubbing or vigorous cleansing can darken a patch, so treat the face as something to be left alone.

FAQ

Melasma at Dear Clinic, answered

Can melasma be cured?
No. Melasma is a relapsing pigment condition; the triggers stay in your life, so the work is to reduce how dark and how wide the patch reads and then hold it there with sun discipline and occasional maintenance. That framing is set out at the first consultation, before any block is bought.
How much does melasma treatment cost here?
A dual toning session with in-clinic skincare is ₩200,000 (≈ $145), or ₩1,500,000 (≈ $1,070) as a block of ten. The triple configuration is ₩300,000 (≈ $215) per session and ₩2,500,000 (≈ $1,785) for ten. Excel V is ₩150,000 (≈ $105) and the Dear Custom One-Day Laser is ₩400,000 (≈ $285).
What is the difference between the dual and triple toning routes?
They are two configurations of the same low-fluence approach, priced differently and chosen at diagnosis. The triple route is reserved for fields that have shown limited movement on the dual configuration or that read as long-standing on the scan; it is not an automatic upgrade offered to everyone who asks.
Why is melasma sold as a block of ten sessions?
Because low fluence works by repetition. A single pass is deliberately gentle, so a field is judged over a span of visits, and ten is roughly that span. The block is only offered where the scan supports it, and if two or three sessions show no movement the plan is stopped instead of being run down.
Is this a skin-whitening treatment?
No. The aim is a pigment patch that reads lighter and covers less ground; nothing here changes your baseline skin colour and no claim of that kind is made. In-clinic skincare within the session supports the barrier while the course runs, which matters because irritated skin darkens.
When is Excel V used for melasma instead of toning?
When the scan finds standing redness or visible vessels under or beside the brown. A pigment-directed pass leaves that flush untouched and the patch still looks dark, so the vascular component is treated on its own route at ₩150,000 (≈ $105), either before or alongside a toning plan.
What is the Dear Custom One-Day Laser for?
It is a single-visit plan assembled at diagnosis, charged as one line at ₩400,000 (≈ $285). It suits a defined problem, a single trip to Seoul, or a face whose mixture does not fit a repeating block. What the visit will include is stated before anything is switched on.
Can repeated toning damage my skin?
Pushed too hard, yes. Mottled hypopigmentation — pale dots where pigment cells have been over-treated — is documented in the published literature on low-fluence work, alongside rebound darkening. That is exactly why energy is kept conservative, intervals are respected and a session is skipped when the skin is unhappy.
Does it hurt, and can I wear makeup afterwards?
A low-fluence pass feels like brief warmth and light prickling, and the face stays pink for a short while afterwards. Most people put makeup back on the same day, and your director confirms the timing for your own skin at the visit.
Will my melasma come back after the course?
Expect it to try. Summer sun, a hot holiday, a hormonal change or a lapse in sunscreen are the usual reasons a field returns, so a maintenance rhythm is agreed at the end of a course. Relapse handled early is shorter work than starting over.
Are there people you would turn away?
Yes. A face that is currently sunburnt, peeling or inflamed is rescheduled. Where the scan shows deeper birthmark pigment instead of melasma, we do not recommend a toning block and explain what the mark actually is. Recent hormonal change is discussed before a block is sold, because the trigger may still be running.
Can I start a melasma course while visiting Seoul?
A scan, a consultation and a first session usually fit one visit, and the clinic runs 365 days a year, so a date is rarely the problem. A block of ten cannot be compressed into a short trip because the intervals matter, so visitors often take the single-visit route instead.

What the trials report on low-fluence toning for melasma

The published record on this approach is shown here including the parts that are uncomfortable. One of the three references below traces the melanin and melanocyte changes behind mottled hypopigmentation after low-fluence 1064 nm work, one asks directly whether long-term results hold, and one sets the approach against intense pulsed light.

Each reference resolves through its DOI to an indexed journal, and each is a reason a course here stays conservative in energy and is stopped when a field is not answering.
